To be honest, styling daily outfits to special party looks that are experimental and, yet, also look put together and well thought of is extremely difficult. Often times, we make style mistakes and that is completely fine, but the question is: How can we avoid common fashion mistakes?Fashion is a statement of who you are. It is the best method of identity, so make it FAB
It is truly very difficult to identify fashion mistakes, but there are some general ones I have come to notice throughout the years and would love to share them with you all.
1. Too Many Accessories
Why do I bring up accessories first? There are two reasons for this: 1) Accessorizing provides a different flare to the outfit (It’s like the decorations on a cake), 2) Minimalism is key when choosing accessories because too many can overpower the clothing.
How to draw the limit between too much and just right?
1. Figure out what kind of jewelry looks best on you.
Bracelets getting in the way of typing, writing important college essays, or related work? – You might not want to wear them for that specific day. Personally, oversized earrings don’t look nice on me and dominate my outfit, so I only keep them part of my party outfits and/or keep them off of my shopping list.
2. Take the “Statement Piece” Road
Usually, when people hear about “statement piece”, they assume that they should stick to only one type of jewelry (ex. minimalist and sleek). However, this is completely opposite of the original method. Fashion is about experimentation, so you should enjoy the various varieties of jewelry (while also remembering what looks good on you).
My advice is to have a decent collection of jewelry, but let one or two pieces have a spotlight at a time. For example, if I decide to wear a heavy, gold earring, I will not pair it with a statement necklace. I will instead wear a complimenting gold ring or bracelet so that the focal point remains the earrings.
Wrinkling was not the only issue. It seemed as if the shirt was completely synthetic, which isn’t so comfortable in the summer and spring seasons. Therefore, look at the quality of the clothe, compare it with similar products you own, and make a wise decision.
Pro Tip: Timeless clothing is better than cost-friendly clothing.
3. Over-consuming
Similar to what I mentioned previously about fast fashion, consumerism is such a dominant part of our lifestyle and worldly fashion. With the ever increasing costs, we have to think about what we are buying and if that specific product is actually worth it. Whenever looking at product in the mall, ask yourself: “Do I actually need this?” Often times, the true answer will be NO.
If you take a glimpse into the products you have in your closet, you may realize that you can give a new life to pieces you already own. You may want to donate some items to a local thrift store, recreate them to fit the fashion trends, and even throw away some products to make closet space. In the end, the point is to be a wise and ethical consumer, but also not to be afraid of spending on a product that is worth it.
